Inspiration from India

Yesterday I found some beautiful sparkly paisley embellishments in Oxfam of all places. I did not know they sold craft kits and bits and pieces but now I do I shall check them out more often. I wonder if making cards with embellishments from a charity shop makes them 'charity cards'. I also used some coloured paper and home made marbled paper. The card measures 10cm square.

Delicious Inkylicious Dandelion

New year, new shop, new embossing powder and pad, new stamp and lots of new techniques.

I found a new (to me) craft shop, Carole's Crafts, this week. In the shop I found some embossing powders at a bargain price 24 for £6.72 these did not have a maker' name on them.

With a choice of 24 colours I decided to practise on the colours I didn't think I would use a lot. I took the colour scheme from some pastel marbled paper I made recently and decided to emboss an Inkylicious dandelion and two butterflies in blue. I also used the bargain priced Dovecraft embossing pad to stamp the card background which I coloured with Rowney Soft pastels. Finally, I edged the picture with some more vintage lace from my Mum's stash. I had to use a hairdryer to emboss as I don't have a heat gun but all in all I am quite happy with my first attempt and quite like the effect of candyfloss colours.

Vintage Fashion card

The card layout which inspired me is from Tracy at Cupboard Trilogy
The images come from adverts in a piece of a vintage magazine I have. I think it is from the 1930s. Two of the buttons are also vintage.

Christmas Deer Tag

This year I made some plain and simple gift tags. On this tag I have used a vintage stamp of a fallow deer on plain brown wrapping paper with a touch of gold glitter. The stamp came from a set of stamps called British Wild Animals which were originally used in primary schools and I found in a car boot sale. The tie is red raffia and the tartan ribbon came from Mason's, the most wonderful family run Aladdin's cave of a shop, in Abingdon on Thames near Oxford.

Mason's has to be seen to be believed as it it is a step back into the past. Mason's have three shops which cover every apect of needlework and crafts with staff who are both knowledgeable and helpful. They do have a limited selection on line at www.masonsneedlecraft.co.uk www.masonsneedlecraft.co.uk including nearly 1000 ribbons available by the metre.

Dodo dressed to party

Inspired by Simon Says Stamp and Show theme of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party I dug out my own linocut of the Dodo who thinks he should have been invited too. Dressed only in a few feathers he and a potential offspring are here seen either coming or going to the maddest party of the year – so far.

Vintage Tag with Old Lace

On this tag I have used some vintage lace which I inherited from my mother. My mother saved lots of bits and pieces, as did most people who struggled through WWII, and I am still finding uses for it.
